This is the first book in the Dakotah Treasures series. Ruby and Opal move to a new town because their father contacts them finally. They don't quite expect what they get. I enjoyed this. I'm glad that it's part of a whole series because I'm excited to see where they will go next.

I love the covers on this and Sanctuary!! I'm kind of intrigued by your descriptions of both of them, really.

Yeah, I am really a fan of what a good job this publisher does with covers (bethany house publishing). They really make a good effort to showcase what the book will be about by minut details!

This one (Ruby) is a little less "preachy" than some of the Christian books I read, truthfully; maybe see if your library has it and read the back to see what you think :)

I already checked if we have it, and we don't :( We do have others by the author, though. The Amazon review said the same thing, that it wasn't too preachy, just representative of what you would see from the time period. I'm all for that, so I added it to my wishlist for the next time I have money for extra purchases. Worth a shot.

I was thinking about this more when looking through my books this weekend... Another couple of sets that you might like for the historical value would be the two serieses (or is it two series? not sure how to pluralize that!) from Tracie Peterson about the Harvey Girls (books here tagged "harvey girls"; it's the Desert Roses series and Westward Chronicals series) This was a phenonmenon that I wasn't familiar with back in the early 1900s where they had these chains of restaurants focused on high quality and fast service. The way these books focused on this kinda reminded me of what they do in Sunfire books, focusing on a single event in history.

Those do look neat! Especially the Westward Chronicles series. Again, oppl doesn't have them, though - they only have the author's most recent books from the last two years. (And I can't get over how much the girl on the cover of Across the Years looks like Tara from Buffy!)

I have just remembered that I have my own personal local library, in addition to the one where I work. LOL They don't have them, either, but are connected to the northern Illinois system. I'm definitely going to request them when classes start and I'll be there often to pick them up.

I just posted a little note about this on goodreads...I ordered it Monday from another library and I was able to pick it up today! I'm about two chapters in and really enjoying it. I should be working on my assignment due Monday, but every time a website takes just a hair long to load, the book is in my hands. LOL
