Getting Started Knitting Socks

Getting Started Knitting Socks
Even though I've made multiple pairs of socks now, I still am enjoying reading books about different techniques. This was a very well-put-together book. I would highly recommend this as a "first pair of sock tutorial". The pictures are really clear, and rather than just drawings, each step has a photograph. All socks are top down with a gusset and kitchener toe, but that seems pretty standard for knitting books. It does have info about using different ribs and other basic patterns to enhance your standard stockingette socks. One cool thing with this book is that it gives you different patterns depending on the weight of yarn you'll use. So you figure out your gauge and then pick a pattern. There are also basic overviews for different cast ons, and ways to join in the round, different heels like eye of partridge, and brief mentions of other ways to knit rounds (circular needles) The book itself is new (2007), so all of the yarns and information is very current, which helps for someone who is really new and will need to know what to look for when they walk into a craft store for the first time. Highly recommended!
