Book one in A Secret Refuge series. Our library lists this as a YA (young adult) book, but I really wanted to read more of Lauraine Snelling's books, so I checked it out. Really, it wasn't targetted at much younger of an audience than normal prairie novels. I read this right after reading another slave book, and should have spread them out some, but of course LS is such a wonderful authors, I couldn't help but love this one. Jesselynn is trying to save the family slaves and horses, and what an amazing story. I look forward to see what happens with the growing group along with Jesse.
