"...But here's something to rattle the dice about: Board games are showing signs of resurgence."

Last week or maybe a few weeks back, our local paper reprinted this article on the front of the Life section. Of course, it caught our eyes because we enjoy more unique board games. Many of our recent games are actually mentioned in the article! (tip, if you want to see our games, my boardgamegeek profile shows them.)

It's fun because we were influenced greatly by Eric's friend Gabe, who owns more games than we could ever imagine. And now we are sharing those games with my family, and they are regularly requesting that we bring along our games when we get together for family stuff. It's cool to watch how they are expanding into playing more than just Bohnanza ("the bean game") and starting to know that if it's in our game box, it's probably going to be fun. :)

My favorite right now is Ticket to Ride, which is a US board where you place train cars to go between your destination. Every game is different, because you draw destination cards "tickets" and so that makes for new routes to figure out each time.

Anyhow, this article was a nice introduction to why board games are coming back, even in the age of video games and other activities.

Have you ever played "Fill or Bust"? it is a card and dice game (there are special card not just regular playing cards) that game is my favorite.

No, I haven't seen that one before. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll look for that one! :)

For about 10 months, we drove around with at least 20 board games in our trunk. They are now occupying a corner of the future nursery. We should probably find them a permanent home.

I love Ticket to Ride! Is the expansion set something we should be getting?

Ooh, thanks, I'll keep my eyes open for that one. We're still enjoying Carcassone after your recommendation here like a year ago!

Sara, the 1910 expansion is cool because the cards are bigger and easier to hold onto (the expansion replaces the cards in the original set) and it has a lot more route options (I think 40ish extra tickets). We got it for less than $15, and I'd definitely suggest it if you are enjoying the regular game, it's worth it, IMO!

Thanks for the info. The expansions out of print right now so my Hubby and I are trying to decide if it's worth hunting down. Let the hunt begin. Cheers!

Weird, I'm surprised its out! I checked funagain (that's who amazon said was selling it for them) and phoenixgames, where we've bought games before, and they are out of stock like you said! boardgamegeek has it in their marketplace, but that's person-to-person sales, and that always makes me a little leary. Phoenixgames said it was expected back early 2008, so maybe give it a month or so and you'll be able to get it all over the place :)
